The pool, which was scheduled to open last Monday, June 8, did not open until the middle of last week due to unseasonably cool temperatures, which kept the pool™s water temperature down.City Council Gives Tattoo Studio Stamp of Approval by Dan RuudThe Belle Plaine City Coun- cil Monday night unanimously approved a request by Candice Sander of Belle Plaine for a conditional use permit to oper- ate a tattoo studio at 133 North Meridian Street downtown.Sander, of Belle Plaine, plans to call the business Devine Darkness Tattoo. She said she will be employing two additional people, including a full-time tattooist with 14 years assistant to help with overall operations. She will be leasing the currently vacant facility from building owners Dan and Lori Neisen.About a half-dozen people spoke at the public hearing, all but one of whom spoke in support of the business.Prior to opening the public hearing, Community Development Director Trisha Rosenfeld explained that a tattoo establishment is not a permitted use in the downtown district and thus requires a conditional use permit. Visitation was prior to the service. Interment was in Spirit Hill Cemetery in Jordan.Wally was born September 26, 1924 to Joseph O. and Sadie (Erickson) Carlson in St. Lawrence Township, Jordan. He farmed with his family in St. Lawrence Township and graduated from Jordan High School in 1942. Wally had the opportunity to work at many different occupations over his lifetime; owned a sawmill, farmed, was a stone mason, learned to plaster and stucco, worked for the MN Highway Dept. and was a meter technician for MVE for 17 years until he retired in 1987. An avid hunter, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting Minnesota and Canada with family and friends. Wally was a lifelong active member at St. Paul™s Lutheran Church in Jordan. Survivors include his brother, Eugene fiJimfl (Ruth) Carlson of Jordan; sister-in-law, Madeline Carlson of Winsted; nieces, nephews, cousin, relatives and friends. Ryan treasured driving and riding the antique tractors. Ryan loved to watch Nascar Racing his favorite driver being Casey Kane. Ryan was very active with the Youth group at West Union Lutheran Church and he always helped anybody out who needed it.
